    With over a decade’s local experience in leading sustainable engineering design, Alex has a track record of delivering outcomes that exceed client expectations.

    Alex provides high-quality, considered service on each project. His technical knowledge spans building services through to sustainable design and construction, resulting in a holistic approach to design solutions.

    Alex has been the lead engineer on many of Sydney’s most recognisable sustainability developments, delivering major projects across commercial, residential, education, hospitality and civic buildings.

  • Brandon Notaras

    FOUNDER - DIRECTOR | ACOUSTICS

    Always challenging age-old acoustics assumptions with computational modelling and on-site validation, Brandon specialises in developing and designing buildable technical solutions for complex builds.

    Experienced in leading large teams of engineers, Brandon has contributed to many of Sydney’s thriving built forms, including the Atlassian Tower in Sydney’s Central technology precinct, one of Sydney’s most iconic projects.

  • Nick Kuzewicz

    DIRECTOR OF FIRE ENGINEERING

    Nick has 21 years’ experience in the construction and fire safety industry. He has consulted on projects across Australia specialising in Fire Engineering, Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Management.

    He has worked on projects covering many markets and ranging in size from small tenancy fit outs all the way up to Airport Link Road tunnel. He is highly skilled both technically and in many other competencies including his extensive multidisciplinary work and project management skills. Nick takes a practical and innovative approach to Fire Safety Engineering, and actively works to produce design solutions which are safe, flexible, functional, and cost effective.

    Nick has extensive experience in undertaking performance-based fire engineering designs and analysis, including fire modelling studies, risk-based approach to fire scenario evaluations, evacuation modelling, smoke production and behaviour analysis. He proactively focuses on working with the client, building owners, architects, design teams, building certifiers and fire authorities to ensure the client’s design objectives are achieved.

  • Alex Malicki

    Alex has strong commercial and technical capability in developing and delivering fire safety design strategies and fire engineered solutions addressing life safety, risk, property protection and business continuity. He has provided fire engineering and project management for numerous design, construction and research projects focussing both on buildings and infrastructure.

  • Josh Raines

    ASSOCIATE | FIRE ENGINEERING

    Josh has over six years of experience as a fire safety engineer working in a variety of portfolios including mixed-use residential, commercial, industrial, retail, education, healthcare, entertainment venues and transport infrastructure. His well-rounded experience on major and minor developments permits a flexible and thorough approach to each and every project he undertakes.

    Josh specialises in fire engineered Performance Solutions and fire safety strategies with his developed understanding of construction and the built environment having completed his Master’s of Fire Safety Engineering from Western Sydney University with distinction and his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) with Honours from University of Newcastle.

    Josh has attained his Chartered Professional Engineer status from Engineers Australia and is listed on the National Engineering Register. Josh maintains his NSW Certifier – Fire Safety and NSW Fair Trading Design Practitioner – Fire Safety accreditations bringing his leadership and accountability to his work and projects.

  • Gordon Grant

    ASSOCIATE | FIRE SAFETY ENGINEER

    Gordon holds a Master’s degree in Fire Engineering (2010) and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (1992), both from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.  He brings over 30 years of experience in engineering consulting practice.  Gordon is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (Civil, Structural, and Fire) and a Chartered Fire Engineer (NZ) – CPEng (Fire).

    His key strengths include the ability to work autonomously and manage projects from initial client contact through to design and construction completion.  He has a comprehensive understanding of the entire process, from problem definition to design solution.  A strong communicator, Gordon confidently applies both written and verbal communication skills, including face-to-face meetings, to deliver complex engineering projects effectively.

    Gordon also possesses specialist technical expertise in the types of buildings he most frequently works on, particularly large-footprint industrial buildings in the primary sector featuring high-rack storage and substantial quantities of stored goods.  In addition, he has extensive experience with other commercial building types, including education, healthcare, office, and retail facilities, as well as residential sleeping-type buildings.

    Guljit brings over a decade of experience delivering sustainability outcomes in the Australian built environment across multiple sectors. With a strong focus on practical and results-driven solutions, Guljit collaborates closely with design teams and clients to achieve their sustainability aspirations.

    Her expertise spans the entire project lifecycle from concept design to operation, where her keen attention to detail and strong technical proficiency enable her to provide actionable and realistic advice.

  • Ben Loe

    ASSOCIATE | SYDNEY TEAM CO-LEAD | SUSTAINABILITY

    Ben is an Associate in the E-Lab Sydney office. He has over 8 years’ experience as a Sustainability professional in Sydney. With a background in Mechanical engineering and energy management, Ben has experience in analysing and reporting on the performance of buildings and developing sustainable strategies through building science studies.

    He is a Green Star Accredited Professional, NABERS Assessor and WELL AP and has project experience in multi-residential, commercial, hotel, education public and health building projects. His on-site experience and background in energy management provides practical insight into achieving targeted sustainable initiatives and better performing buildings through sustainable strategies, modelling and analytics.

  • Teresa D Nguyen

    ASSOCIATE | SYDNEY TEAM LEAD | ACOUSTICS

    Teresa has been involved in architectural and environmental acoustic projects of all scales, across Australia and New Zealand. Teresa’s qualifications include a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons), from the University of New South Wales.

    Teresa specialises in architectural acoustics and brings a broad range of skills to her acoustic approach; including room acoustics, sound insulation and building services noise assessments. She is enthusiastic about Commercial and Residential sectors and understands the importance of transforming these areas into a creation of acoustically comfortable and healthful environment.

  • Amir Jafari

    ASSOCIATE | CFD & WIND

    Based in E-LAB's Sydney office, Amir is a distinguished Wind and CFD Engineering specialist with a robust 12-year track record in CFD simulations tailored for the wind engineering and energy sectors. This is complemented by three years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living (CRCLCL), where he focused on wind and climate analysis. Amir possesses extensive experience in data centre modelling, including the development and implementation of innovative mitigation strategies.

    His broad expertise further extends to critical areas such as airport wind shear and turbulence analysis, pollutant dispersion studies for metro systems and car parks, and assessments of urban pedestrian comfort and safety. Prior to his current role, Amir served as a senior engineer, providing professional consultancy services to Arup. Throughout his career, he has consistently leveraged his profound knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics to deliver insightful solutions.

  • Chris Mann

    ASSOCIATE | SUSTAINABILITY

    Chris has over 8 years’ of experience as a Sustainability professional in both Newcastle and Sydney. As a senior engineer, he leads the E-LAB Newcastle office team in developing sustainable design solutions and building performance optimisation.

    With a background in Photovoltaic engineering and Physics, Chris has developed a comprehensive knowledge of building physics, building fabric design and Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) principles. He uses computer simulation methods and applications to conduct daylight analysis, energy and thermal comfort modelling.

  • Jordan Parry

    Jordan is an experienced Project Engineer with a focus on Fire & Life Safety.

    With over 7 years in the industry, he has had the opportunity to hone his expertise in a wide range of projects, including commercial developments, residential complexes, educational facilities, and large assembly buildings.

  • Dwayne Smith

    TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, SPECIALIST FIRE SERVICES

    Dwayne is dually qualified as both a fire services engineer and a fire safety engineer, leading to significant experience with solving complex fire services problems either by DtS design or by performance solution. In a number of projects, Dwayne assists both consultants and contractors with troubleshooting and repair of systems, in addition to resolving design criteria. He has reverse engineered complicated cause and effect matrices, established original baseline data and resolved compliance issues across health, commercial and residential sectors.

    As a designer on new construction projects, Dwayne has thrived as the lead fire services designer on nationally significant projects such as road tunnels, Defence and aviation projects as well as major hospitals and sports stadia across Australia. This has included the range of fire services from fire detection, fire sprinklers, hydrant and hose reel system design. However, Dwayne particularly excels in the design of special hazards systems including foam, gas an water mist fire suppression systems.

  • Harry Wall

    ASSOCIATE | QLD FIRE ENGINEERING TEAM LEAD

    Harry has a combined 10 years working within the fire industry. The first three were spent working within the fire laboratory at the University of Queensland during his studies, and the later 7 years focused on more specifically fire engineering within the construction industry.

    He has experience across various sectors including residential, commercial, retail, education, hotels, industrial, aged care, hospitals, and airports throughout Australia. Within these projects he has been involved in developing fire safety strategies for specific buildings that have high security requirements (e.g. Defence).

    Harry has a strong technical knowledge and has extensive experience with fire and smoke modelling in various applications. He has a strong interest in developing fire safety strategies for complex projects and non-typical structural application (e.g. exposed CLT and glulam elements).

  • Mayra Valladares

    GLOBAL PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION LEAD | PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

    Mayra is a Principal Consultant and Performance Testing agent in the E-Lab Brisbane office. She has over 9 years’ experience as a Scientific consultant, she excels in building performance testing across various rating schemes. With a background in Environmental engineering and environmental management, Mayra has experience in testing, analysing and reporting on the performance of buildings.

    As a certified NABERS IE Assessor and WELL PTA, Mayra brings valuable project experience in both residential and commercial building projects. Her hands-on experience in the field, coupled with her background in Performance Testing, equips her with practical insights to achieve targeted sustainable initiatives and enhance building performance through strategic and sustainable approaches.

  • Chris Merritt

    NATIONAL PERFORMANCE TESTING LEAD | PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

    Chris is a Principal Consultant and National Performance Testing Lead at the E-Lab Brisbane office, with over seven years’ experience in building performance testing across diverse metrics and rating systems. With a background in Physics and Chemistry, he brings a strong foundation in scientific testing and analysis to help improve building outcomes from design through construction and into occupancy.

     In his national role, Chris leads performance testing initiatives across Australia, ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation in project delivery. He is a Green Star Accredited Professional and an ATTMA Level 2 tester, with expertise in air tightness design and testing, indoor environment quality (IEQ), and a wide range of performance assessments across residential, commercial, education, industrial, health, and specialist building projects.

  • Gareth Clark

    Gareth is an Associate and Sustainability Queensland Lead at E-Lab’s Brisbane office, with over seven years of experience as a Sustainability and Building Physics professional across Brisbane and Perth. He is a Green Star Accredited Professional, NABERS & CBD BEEC Assessor, EnviroDevelopment Professional, and NatHERS Assessor.

    Gareth has extensive experience across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, multi-unit residential, hotel, education, infrastructure, health, retail, and mixed-use developments. His background in energy modelling, NABERS tracking, and building tuning supports a strong focus on performance outcomes. Gareth combines practical site-based knowledge with a technical sustainability skillset to deliver sustainable strategies, modelling, and analytics that achieve better-performing buildings.

  • Sunny Skavo

    SENIOR ENGINEER | ACOUSTICS

    Sunny has 7 years’ of acoustic industry experience working on a range of architectural (building and infrastructure) and environmental projects in Australia. Sunny’s qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons), from the Griffith University, Gold Coast.

    He is skilled in conducting acoustic assessments and working collaboratively with architects, services engineers, and contractors to integrate innovative and cost-effective acoustic solutions. Sunny is passionate about working on various projects particularly in the Residential and Commercial sectors and recognises the significance of synchronizing with all project stakeholders to ultimately deliver the optimal acoustic comfort and / or quality.

  • Ken Fong

    Ken Fong’s 13+ years work has included roles at the highest levels of advisory and industry consultation, contributing to award-winning human-centred design outcomes.

    Ken combines best-in-practise engineering methods, cutting-edge research and deep understanding of the client’s needs to achieve real-world business & organisational outcomes. These include increased talent attraction, greater staff engagement & productivity, higher property saleability, improved leasing velocity & improved organisational ESG outcomes.

    Ken was appointed to the COVID-19 Buildings Task Force in 2020 and is a member of the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) Global Advisory Council. He is also a former Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Health & Wellbeing Expert Reference Panel Member.

  • Caimin McCabe

    DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABILITY | VICTORIA

    Caimin has over 30 years consulting experience in the design, analysis and delivery of sustainable buildings, some of which enjoy local, national and international praise for innovative design, energy efficiency, occupant comfort and reduced environmental impact. Key to his success as a sustainable design consultant is his adoption of an open, integrated, holistic and multi-discipline approach to design to improve the sustainability of buildings and his considering of environmental performance through an operational lens.

    Additionally, his formal training as a Building Services Engineer has given him a multi-discipline understanding of the design drivers, constraints and opportunities of engineering disciplines and architecture. Caimin’s skills and design philosophy, combined with his ability to communicate and presentation of complex analysis and results in a manner that enables quick decisions to be made at the early stages of design with engineering assurance..

  • Daniel Castro

    DIRECTOR OF ACOUSTICS

    Daniel's acoustics journey began in Barcelona, where he contributed to groundbreaking R&D projects at a boutique acoustic consultancy. His early career spanned diverse challenges from underground rail acoustics to wind farm noise assessments, including participation in European research initiatives. This foundation led him to New Zealand, where he specialised as an Acoustic Test Engineer for an audio technology innovator.

    In 2008, Daniel established himself in Sydney, mastering Australian building regulations while expanding his portfolio across infrastructure and environmental acoustics. His innovative work in 3D audio spatialisation and building acoustics showcases his technical versatility which led him to develop a proprietary Acoustics VR software that is currently used by E-Lab in all their projects.

    As a manager of several departments and companies since 2015, Daniel has demonstrated exceptional project delivery and team leadership. His unique blend of international experience and technical expertise continues to drive innovation in acoustic consulting.

  • Tayla Williams

    ASSOCIATE | FIRE ENGINEERING TEAM LEAD | VICTORIA

    Tayla began her career with Fire Rescue Victoria, where she gained extensive experience in both operational and regulatory functions of the fire brigade, alongside specialised knowledge in fire safety services relevant to their risk thresholds.

    Since transitioning to the private sector, she has taken a lead role in fire engineering design across a diverse range of projects, including new builds, alteration works and change in use. Her portfolio spans large-scale mixed-use developments, office fit outs, aged care facilities, commercial and retail tenancies, early learning centres, educational institutions, high-rise residential buildings and independent living communities.

    Known for her strong communication, presentation skills, and client focused approach, Tayla excels in translating complex fire engineering concepts into clear, actionable insights. She is dedicated to fostering client satisfaction while upholding fire and life safety standards in the built environment.

    With over 18 years in acoustics and vibration, Imran has a wealth of occupational noise and vibration experience gained on architectural, environmental, industrial and building commissions. He is passionate about his field of expertise and greatly enjoys demonstrating how acoustics affect every aspect of construction and identifying where the greatest Client outcomes can be attained.
